I do quite a bit of networking to promote my blog post. Recently, I was contacted by someone on Discord.

Through our conversation, I discovered that she had a Shopify store where she dropships beauty products. 

I thought this was pretty fascinating. But what was more fascinating to me was what she had made in revenue in only one day:

2,615 dollars… in one day

All of this, she claimed, was with minimal effort while she watched her favorite TV shows on her couch in the comfort of her own home.

“Wow,” I thought, “This sounds like a kind of dream: working from home, more of a passive form of income, working whenever I would like, and having freedom over my time.”

So I did some research on this topic: Can Dropshipping still be profitable in 2025? 

This is what I found out.

What is Dropshipping?

First, let me explain what dropshipping is and why it could be an easier business model for some than a more traditional e-commerce store. 

Traditional e-commerce business model

A traditional e-commerce store will consist of the following:

  1. A Business will order inventory from a supplier

  2. The supplier will ship it to the business's warehouse 

  3. The product will be stored in the warehouse

  4. The customer will place the order with the business 

  5. Business will ship the product to the customer to fulfill the order

However, on the other hand, a dropshipping model looks like this:

  1. A Business will have a website with listings for customers to place an order. 

  2. When a customer places an order, the business will place an order with the supplier. 

  3. The supplier will ship the product directly to the customer, fulfilling the order.

Simple concept, really. You, as the dropshipper, will be the middleman between the buyer and the supplier.

Benefits of dropshipping in 2025

There are many benefits to dropshipping for a number of reasons, and really, it’s one of the best options for a beginner entrepreneur to make a profit without much of a learning curve.

Here are some of the benefits of starting dropshipping:

Low starting cost:

With only 500, you could easily be set up with everything that you would need. Including a webpage, Marketing, and any other start-up costs you might need. Which means it can be done by just about anyone. 

Freedom of location:

Because you won’t have any inventory in your possession and no warehouse is needed, all you need to fulfill an order is a laptop and an internet connection. That’s it. You can reasonably do it from anywhere in the world that has internet.

A ‘Passive’ form of Income: 

Though it isn’t a completely automated process because you’ll need to fulfill orders, check on marketing analytics, and customer support. However, because logistics, packaging, and shipping will all be done through a third party, minimal effort is required to keep the online store. 

Overall, if you are willing to make around a 750$ or less investment and you're willing to learn. Good chance you’ll succeed.

Scaleable 

E-commerce stores can be one of the best and easiest stores to scale. With the right marketing, smart investments, and hard work, you could definitely see up to 6-7 figures. 

Drawbacks of Dropshipping in 2025

Despite these benefits of a dropshipping store, there are many drawbacks to starting a dropshipping store.

Steep Learning Curve Finding Products:

Not every product that stores dropships sell. In fact, it can be difficult to understand which products sell and which ones do not. Tools such as ZIK analytics can be helpful in finding profitable products to sell

Even so, there are no guarantees that a product will be sellable 

Saturated Market:

There are many people dropshipping nowadays, making the markets oversaturated, which could hinder your profitability because chances are, there are other people selling the same product somewhere else. Adding more emphasis on product research.

No Control of Stock:

One major drawback is having no control over the stock you are selling. In a traditional warehouse, you own the product, and you can have greater control over how that product gets to the customer. 

Possibility of being banned:

Sites like eBay try to discourage shipping items from China to customers, so the possibility of being banned is very high. However, if you use Shopify, you will not get banned because you own the website.

Customer Support and Returns:

Another drawback of having an online store is having to deal with disappointed customers. You will have to learn communication skills and customer satisfaction in order to help keep your business in good standing. Also, a customer may want to return a product after receiving it, which can be a hassle on your part.

How profitable is dropshipping in 2025? 

Recently, this YouTube video titled “I Tried Dropshipping For a Week (RAW RESULTS)” by Andy Stauring came on my for you page, and the results shocked me.

In this video, he made himself a challenge to make 1000$ by starting a dropshipping store from scratch, all without the only 500$ start-up cost. 

He used Shopify and Auto DS to set up a store selling a custom heart necklace with the person's name. 

He bought video advertisements from a freelancer for 95$ and within a day two he was making money off his Shopify store.

At the end of the week, he made over 700$ profit from this Shopify store! Very impressive, as now with the initial setup, he could keep using those profits to reinvest in the marketing of the store, drumming up more profits. He could also scale with another product or other forms of monetization. 

Conclusion:

Dropshipping is a great way to start a business and can be very profitable if you find the right product to sell. 

For beginners, it’s best to:

  • Learn Social Media Marketing

  • Start by dropshipping on Etsy or eBay to learn which products are able to sell organically.

  • Set up the store as fast as possible so you can utilize the free trials companies offer

There are many benefits to dropshipping, and because of the low starting cost, there are few reasons not to give it a try.
